Senior Moves: Selling Your Home and Moving On Your Terms

A move in later life isn't always a downsize. Move closer to family, in with family, out of the city or into senior living, at your pace.

A senior move is not the same as downsizing

People assume a move in later life means a smaller house. Often it doesn't. Some move to be closer to children or grandchildren. Some move in with family for support. Some want out of the city. Some are ready for a senior living community. Some aren't sure yet.

I'm Omega Mejia, a real estate agent in Frisco, Texas. I start by listening to what you want your next chapter to look like, and then I plan the sale around it. If a smaller home is part of your plan, see my page on downsizing.

The moves I help with

  • Moving closer to family. That may be across Texas or in another state. I sell your home here, and I connect you with a trusted agent where you're going.
  • Moving in with family. We plan the timing so the sale and the move line up, and so you know what to do with the contents of your home.
  • Leaving the city. If you want more quiet, a smaller town or some land, we look at where that could be and how the sale supports it.
  • Moving into senior living. The community you choose is your decision, and often your family's too. I help with the sale and the timing around it.

How I plan the sale

We start with your timeline: when you want to be moved, where you're going and what has to happen first. Then I show you a Plan A, B and C for pricing, with the recent sales behind each one, so you can choose without pressure. See how I price a home.

Every listing gets professional photos, a walkthrough video, its own website, an open house the first weekend and paid ads, and you hear from me every week. See how I market your home.

Timing the sale and the move

The question I hear most is the order: sell first, or find the next place first? I walk you through each choice, including a closing date that gives you time after the sale. See how selling first works.

If you're moving out of Texas, read how I plan a move out of state. Selling after a loss in the family? Read my page for that.

Your family, attorney and advisors are part of the team

A senior move often involves family, and sometimes an attorney, a financial planner or a tax advisor. I welcome them all. I keep everyone informed, and I leave the legal, tax and care decisions to the people qualified to guide them.

Start with a conversation

Tell me where you're thinking of going and when. Book a consultation. We can talk by phone or in person, there's no pressure to list, and you decide the pace.

This page describes my general approach. It isn't legal, tax, financial or care advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a senior move the same as downsizing?

No. Many people move to be closer to family, to move in with family, to leave the city or to enter senior living, and not only to get a smaller home. We start with what you want your next chapter to look like.

Can you help me sell my home and move to be near my family?

Yes. I sell your home here and connect you with a trusted agent where you're going, so both ends of the move line up. The choice of agent is yours.

Can I take my time before I list?

Yes. You decide the pace. We can plan the timing, prepare the home and look at your options before you commit to a date.

Can my family be part of the decisions?

Yes. I keep your family informed by phone or email, so decisions are shared and no one is left out.
