How does the Frisco Street closure in Frisco, Texas change your commute and home search?

How does the Frisco Street closure in Frisco, Texas change your commute and home search? If your drive or the homes you are touring sit near the corner of Frisco Street and Cobb Hill Drive, your route changes for about seven months. Elsewhere in town, you will likely never notice it. The city closed the intersection on October 12, 2026 so crews can build a roundabout, with a target reopening of late May 2027.

I'm Omega Mejia, a real estate agent with Simply Great Real Estate Group, and I help buyers judge a home by the way they will live in it every day. Here are the detours, the dates and what they mean for a home search in Frisco, Texas.

When does the Frisco Street and Cobb Hill Drive intersection reopen?

The city expects the intersection to reopen in late May 2027, about seven months after it closed. The City of Frisco announced on October 9, 2026 that the roads leading into the intersection would close on Monday, October 12 at 9 a.m. while crews build a roundabout.

Construction dates can move with weather and progress, so late May 2027 is a target, not a promise.

What are the detours around the Frisco Street closure?

The city's detours send drivers around the closed corner, and they matter most for trips to Memorial High School, because the northernmost school driveway on Frisco Street is closed during construction. Every trip to the school enters from the south.

  • From neighborhoods east of Preston Road: take Eldorado Parkway and turn north onto Frisco Street. Use the same route on the way home.
  • From neighborhoods west of the Dallas North Tollway: turn right onto the southbound Dallas Parkway frontage road, use the u-turn lane before Eldorado Parkway, then turn right onto Newton Drive.
  • Coming back from the west side: take Newton Drive to the northbound Dallas Parkway frontage road, then turn left or use the u-turn at Panther Creek Parkway.

The city's map of closures and detours shows these routes, and the city points drivers to the Waze app for closure updates.

Will the Frisco Street closure make your drive longer?

For some trips, yes. A detour adds turns, and a route that used to be a straight shot may now run through the frontage road and a u-turn. How many minutes it adds depends on your start point, the hour and the traffic that day.

The first few weeks feel the longest. Once the new route is familiar, it becomes part of the routine until the roundabout opens.

If you are buying a home near the Frisco Street closure

Judge the home by what a normal Tuesday looks like once you live there. A closure ends. The shape of the street and the distance to the places you go every week stay.

When we tour in this part of Frisco, I build the tour list to avoid the closed stretch and route us in from Eldorado Parkway, so your showing day runs smoothly. The roundabout is a visible improvement on its way, and you can see the work moving when you drive by. I walk every buyer through comparing areas by their daily routine in my buying process, and the steps are laid out on my process page.
