What makes Northwest Community Park worth knowing if you live in Frisco, Texas?
What makes Northwest Community Park worth knowing if you live in Frisco, Texas? It is a 122-acre City park on Teel Parkway north of Panther Creek Parkway with 9.61 miles of trails, a five-acre dog park, a 20-acre great lawn and an active restoration of the endangered Blackland Prairie. It opened in September 2026, and it changes what daily life looks like for anyone living in northwest Frisco.
I'm Omega Mejia with Simply Great Real Estate Group at OnDemand Realty, and I walk this park with my own dogs.
What does Northwest Community Park have?
Northwest Community Park has a great lawn, three playgrounds, a dog park, a splash pad, zip lines and miles of shaded trails. The features people mention most:
- A 20-acre great lawn and three playgrounds, including a 20-foot custom Bison play structure.
- A five-acre dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs.
- A seasonal splash pad next to the large pavilion in the Welcome Plaza.
- Two mini zip lines, an outdoor classroom about the Blackland Prairie and several pavilions with tables and chairs.
- More than 1,300 elm and oak trees added, plus about 70 acres of urban forest that shade the walking and biking routes.
How many miles of trails are at Northwest Community Park?
The park has 9.61 miles of trails. That includes about 4 miles of traditional singletrack, 0.8 miles of free ride and flow trails, 2.3 miles of bike-optimized chip seal, a 1-mile connecting trail and a 1.51-mile paved shared-use loop. The dirt trails for hikers and trail runners are separate from the bike trails, so a morning run and a mountain bike ride do not compete for the same path.
Riders also get a Bike Skills Area with a pump track, jump lines and a kids track. The Prairie Lookout has a long ramp a wheelchair can use, plus a staircase.
Does Northwest Community Park have a dog park?
Yes. The five-acre dog park has separate off-leash areas for small dogs, 35 pounds and under, and for large dogs over 35 pounds, with two large-dog areas that take turns so the grass gets a rest.
The prairie is the part most visitors do not expect. Restoration is underway in the upper half of the park, where remnants of old-growth prairie remain, and native plants line the playgrounds, plazas, bike pads, parking loops and the edges of the great lawn. The park was built around the land instead of flattening it.
What does Northwest Community Park say about living in Frisco?
It says Frisco plans green space as part of the city, not as an afterthought. Frisco grew to 219,304 residents in the Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimates, a 23.9 percent jump over the 2019 figure, and my Frisco Census facts page has the rest of the housing numbers. With all that growth, the City still paid for this $40 million park with bonds, built it in a single phase and designed it around preservation. Mayor Mark Hill described the design as one that "focuses on preservation."

When I build a search for you, I measure each home's distance to the park and its trails, because that distance is a fact you will feel every day, and I pull recent sales on the exact street so the price makes sense too.
