What Does Dick's House of Sport Mean for Weekends Near Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, Texas?

It gives the area around Preston Road a new place to spend an hour or an afternoon, with sports you can try, not only gear you can buy. It does not set the price of any home. It changes how a Saturday close to home can go.

Here is what is coming to Stonebriar Centre, what already sits around it and what it adds if you are thinking about moving to Frisco.

Dick's House of Sport is taking over the former Sears space at Stonebriar Centre, at 2605 Preston Road in Frisco. Community Impact reported that the store would open on Friday, October 23, 2026, with an opening celebration planned through October 25.

House of Sport is a larger, more hands-on version of the regular Dick's Sporting Goods store. Work on the old Sears space began in November 2025.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists the project at 142,415 square feet, with an estimated cost of $16 million. The state record describes the work as selective demolition of the vacant space Sears once used, turned into a Dick's House of Sport.

You can climb, swing and putt, along with shopping for athletic gear, apparel and footwear. Rock climbing walls let you try the sport inside the store. Golf simulators let you work on a swing indoors, and putting greens give you a quick round between stops.

Other hands-on activities round it out, so the store feels closer to a sports venue than a row of shelves. A first visit can be a test run: climb before you buy shoes, or putt before you pick a new putter.

That mix fits a city that builds its identity around sports. Frisco is home to FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys at The Star and the PGA of America. To see how the stadium side of town is changing, read my post on FC Dallas and the Toyota Stadium rebuild.

Stonebriar Centre sits at 2601 Preston Road and calls itself Frisco's premier shopping destination. Its store list includes H&M, lululemon, Altar'd State, Chubbies and Crocs, and Dillard's, Macy's and Nordstrom are inside too.

Movies are part of the mix. AMC Dine-In Stonebriar 24 runs inside the center, and a carousel turns on the upper level. For a group meal, the center points to The Cheesecake Factory, Dave & Buster's and Bazille inside Nordstrom. Several restaurants along the outer ring road offer outdoor dining.

The center connects to the Hyatt Regency Frisco. It also opens its doors early for mall walkers, at 8 AM Monday through Saturday and 9 AM on Sunday.

From the Sam Rayburn Tollway, take the Parkwood Blvd. and Dallas Parkway exit. Parking covers a surface lot and two garages. Electric car charging sits in the lower-level garage, lot B.

There is no valet. Ride-share zones and curbside pickup at the upper level main entrance five make a quick drop-off easier. The center uses license plate readers, and it tows vehicles left more than 48 hours.

Inside, single strollers rent at entrance five on both levels, and Security lends standard wheelchairs. Phone charging stations sit near Dillard's, the Macy's wings and the food court, and bike racks wait outside for anyone who rides in.

It adds one more reason to stay local on a weekend. A new anchor in the old Sears space gives Stonebriar Centre a different kind of draw: an activity you can do, not only a store you walk through.

Living nearby, that can mean a rainy-day plan, a place to try a sport before you buy the gear and a spot to meet friends. It also lines up with other changes across the city. When you move from another state, the places you can reach in a few minutes shape your week as much as the house does. Stonebriar Centre is one of Frisco's long-standing shopping centers, and this store adds an indoor activity spot right on Preston Road. That is the kind of detail that is hard to see from a listing photo.

On a scouting trip, the center gives you a lot in one stop: a meal, a movie and a climb under one roof, with a hotel attached if you need a place to stay.

• Drive the streets nearby. Loop through the neighborhoods off Preston Road to see how close home could be.
