Denton County Homes Near Collin County Cities

Buying or selling on the Denton County side of North Texas, in one place.

Why this page exists

My business is built around Collin County. My office is in Frisco, and most of my city pages cover Collin County cities. But some of those cities cross the county line, and a few homes I'm asked about sit on the Denton County side.

This page is for those homes. It explains what changes when your address is in Denton County, how to check which county you're in, and where to find each city's own updates. I keep the city pages focused on Collin County, and this is the one place the Denton County side lives.

Cities that cross into Denton County

Each city below publishes which counties it is in. The links go to my page for the city, which covers the Collin County side.

  • Frisco. The City of Frisco says it is located in both Collin and Denton counties. See the city's elections page, which names both.
  • Prosper. The Town of Prosper's charter describes the town as residents in Collin and Denton County, and the town's economic development office describes Prosper as located in both counties, with its southern border running along US 380.
  • Little Elm. The town's economic development office places Little Elm in Denton County. I help buyers and sellers there as part of my work near Frisco.
  • Celina and Plano. Celina's official source names Collin County, and there is no official statement about either city's Denton County edge, so if your address is near the line, check it rather than assume.

Also working across the line? My pages for McKinney, Allen, Anna and Melissa cover Collin County.

How to check which county your home is in

City limits and county lines don't always match what a mailing address suggests. Two homes with the same city name on the envelope can be in different counties. Before you list or make an offer, confirm three things for the specific address:

  • The county. Check the county's appraisal district or the property tax record for the address. Denton County's site links its Tax Assessor/Collector and property tax records search.
  • The school district. City and county lines don't set the district. Use the district's own address lookup tool and confirm it for the address.
  • The city limits. Ask the city whether the address is inside the city, and which city services apply.

If you're not sure, send me the address and I'll help you find the right records.

What changes across the county line

The way I sell and buy doesn't change. A home in Denton County still gets Plan A, B and C pricing, the same marketing and the same negotiation. What can change is the paperwork and the offices you deal with:

  • Property tax records and the tax office. You deal with the tax office for the county your home is in. For Denton County, that is the Denton County Tax Assessor/Collector.
  • Elections. Denton County runs its own elections office, with voter registration and voting information on its site. Frisco, for example, contracts elections through both counties.
  • County notices and records. The county posts public notices and news on its own website.
  • School district. This depends on the address, not the county. Confirm it for each home.

I don't quote tax amounts or rates on this site, because they change and they depend on the address. Ask me and I'll point you to the current records for the home you're looking at.

Recent updates

County and city information changes, and I'd rather send you to the source than give you an outdated number. Recent updates from Denton County are found at dentoncounty.gov, under News & Events and Public Notices. Recent updates for each city are on its own website:

  • Frisco: friscotexas.gov
  • Prosper: prospertx.gov
  • Little Elm: littleelm.gov
